Scalable and flexible automotive-grade products allow you to quickly change ranges, meet new design requirements, and keep up with trends.

Despite enhancements and improvements in body applications, its offerings for driver and passenger comfort and convenience will not change rapidly. A major challenge for applications is finding solutions that are highly scalable and flexible. Products with these characteristics can be easily adapted to various vehicle low-level and high-level functions. Plus, products with scalability and flexibility allow you to quickly change ranges to meet new needs and keep up with trends. Cost-effective solutions are also popular with users, as long as they perform well and are of high quality. On the other hand, functional safety also needs constant attention.

A body control module, also known as a BCM, is an electronic control unit (ECU) dedicated to executing, monitoring, and controlling vehicle body functions and associated ECUs. The BCM communicates with other vehicle functions via the vehicle bus system and can add gateway functionality.

BCM plays an important role in the following common general body functions:

Exterior and interior lighting

Cabin comfort adjustment devices such as air conditioning and seat adjustment

Front and rear window wipers and defroster

Auxiliary heating devices, such as PTC heaters, and parking heaters

Window lifts, power doors, sunroofs, roof racks, power lift doors, trunk unlocking devices

Car access control, central locking and immobilizers

In recent years, new functional features have been added to vehicles, and the complexity of body control modules has also increased significantly. The number of load units that need to be driven, monitored and controlled in some vehicles exceeds 100, resulting in the splitting of BCM functionality into two or more modules, such as front and rear BCMs.

To reduce the complexity of the vehicle's BCM and wiring harness, the functions of the same body area have been combined into a dedicated electronic control unit, which is powered, monitored and controlled by the BCM. LED modules, HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) modules, seat modules, door modules, car access control and anti-theft modules are just a few examples. This modular body control design is often referred to as a distributed body control architecture and can integrate some power distribution and in-vehicle networking functions.
